United Nations - Prime Minister King has announced that this year Canada. will, for the first time in history, be building almost as many merchant ships as the United Kingdom. These vessels are, 95 per cent Canadian in workmanship and material. Some idea of the cargo space of these vessels may be gained by this photo of the interior of a hull under construction. When completed, this ship will be capable of carrying the following cargo in one voyage; enough flour, cheese, bacon, ham, canned and dried fruits to feed 225,000 persons in Britain for a week; 2,150 tons of steel bars and slabs; enough bombs to load 950 medium bombers or 225 heavy bombers.June 15, 1943.
