U. S. Rocket Gun In Action -- Developed as an anti-tank weapon for infantrymen, the U. S. Army rocket launcher is now being used effectively to smash concrete pillboxes, brick walls and bridges. In this picture a rocket crew behind a hedgerow is firing on the Germans in France. The gun weighs but little more than a rifle and hurls armor-piercing rocket projectiles. It is carried by one man who aims and fires it over his shoulder while the other feeds rockets in the breech. The shell has a low velocity and can be watched in flight but it hits with the force of a 75 mm. shell. Developed by the U. S. Army Ordnance Department it is now in use by the ***** on both the European and Pacific fronts. August 23, 1944.
