Heroes On Parade -- Flags flying, paper showers swirling, New York City recently gave one of the tumultuous receptions it reserves for something special to 15 English and American war heroes. Commandos and RAF pilots fresh from attacks on the Axis in Europe and Africa, Yank flyers and sailors who dealt death to the Japanese in the Pacific, they were parade up famous Broadway to the cheers of thousands, then were hailed at a monster reception that night at Madison Square Garden.Admirers line the sidewalks ten deep as the fighters ride up Broadway. Flags whip from the tall buildings while ticker tape-- New York's favorite confetti for its heroes -- pours down from the windows by the ton. January 9, 1951.
